RTA Program

Registered Teacher’s Assistant (RTA)

The RTA program helps competent students develop into qualified teachers.

Many schools utilize experienced students to help teach younger or less experienced students. This relationship depends on mutual trust between the teacher and assistant. The RTA program is designed to provide a goal-oriented structure for this student-teacher relationship.

How it works:

The RTA program allows participants to apply teaching and feis experience to future teacher certification.

Following established criteria, Teachers supervise and document qualifying RTA classroom teaching experience.

RTA’s periodically demonstrate competency through a combination of feis results, video and workshop participation.

Upon competition of a specific skill set or module, the RTA is granted credit toward the TCRE license.

Benefits:

Teachers may use the RTA program as a student incentive for long-term attendance and loyalty to your school.

Student instructors benefit from clearly defined responsibilities and rewards.

In addition to the obvious benefits of qualifying your most devoted students as competent helpers, the RTA program provides structure and security for what can be a fragile relationship.

In many cases, poorly defined roles and expectations between teacher and assistant can lead to confusion and a general breakdown in the relationship. The RTA program provides an opportunity to define roles and expectations while holding both parties accountable.
